Race Description
The Run Galway Bay Half Marathon follows a remarkably flat, fast, and incredibly scenic route along the rugged western coastline of Ireland. The race starts and finishes in the historic fishing village area of The Claddagh in Galway City. Runners head out along the famous Salthill Promenade, tracing the edge of Galway Bay with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and the distant hills of County Clare. The course is essentially a very long out-and-back (with some loop elements) right on the waterfront, meaning runners enjoy constant ocean breezes and a pristine coastal backdrop for nearly the entire 13.1 miles. Because it is so flat and fully paved, it is an exceptionally fast course, provided the famous Irish coastal winds are blowing in your favor.
