Race Description
The Leipzig Half Marathon takes runners through Leipzig, with the course passing many of the city's sights. From the start at the Red Bull Arena and Quarterback Arena, the route leads via the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße past the New Town Hall to Augustusplatz with the Gewandhaus concert hall, the Opera and the Krochhochhaus. After turning into Prager Straße, the course heads directly towards the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts, then along the University Hospital and the Technical Town Hall to the old trade fair site. Passing the east gate with the famous double-M logo of the Leipzig trade fair, the route goes directly to Leipzig's most famous monument, the Monument to the Battle of the Nations. The course continues through the Südvorstadt with its old Gründerzeit buildings, past the Leipzig racecourse and Clara-Zetkin-Park, and crosses the Pleiße and Elsterflutbecken rivers before returning via the Karl-Heine-Kanal and the Federal Court of Justice back towards the city centre. The final stretch offers one of Germany's longest and most atmospheric finish straights, with almost 800m of finisher chute lined by thousands of cheering spectators.
