Race Description
The Great North Run is one of the largest half marathons in the world, attracting tens of thousands of runners each year to a point-to-point course from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields in northeast England. The race starts on the A167 near the center of Newcastle, and within the first kilometer runners cross the iconic Tyne Bridge, passing between Newcastle and Gateshead with views over the River Tyne. The middle part of the race includes a few gradual climbs, including the well-known rise near High Fell, before the course eventually descends toward the coastline. In the final kilometers, runners reach the North Sea and follow the seafront toward the finish in South Shields, located near the beach and coastal promenade. The course features approximately 150 meters of elevation gain, with most of the climbing occurring in the middle portion of the race.
