Race Description
The Wachau Marathon takes place in the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley in Austria, starting in Emmersdorf and finishing in the town of Krems. The course follows the Danube River through one of the country’s most famous wine regions. Runners pass picturesque villages such as Spitz and enjoy views of terraced vineyards, castles and rolling hills along the valley. The route runs mainly along the B3 road beside the river, offering long scenic stretches through the countryside. Known for its flat and fast layout, the course is popular with runners aiming for personal bests. Participants experience the unique landscapes of the Wachau while running alongside the Danube. The race attracts runners from across Europe thanks to its scenic setting and welcoming atmosphere. With its vineyards, historic villages and riverside views, the Wachau Marathon offers one of the most picturesque marathon experiences in Austria.
