Race Description
The Shanghai Marathon takes runners through one of China’s most dynamic and modern cities, combining iconic landmarks with vibrant urban scenery. The race starts along the Bund at approximately 4 m elevation and finishes near the Shanghai Stadium area at around 3 m, creating an almost completely flat course profile. From the historic waterfront of the Bund, runners pass through wide boulevards, lively commercial districts, and green urban parks while experiencing the contrast between Shanghai’s historic architecture and futuristic skyline. The course remains consistently flat throughout, with only minimal undulations typical of a large coastal city, making it one of the faster marathon courses in Asia. The race usually takes place in November when conditions are cooler and favourable for running, with average temperatures around 12–20°C (54–68°F).
