Race Description
The San Francisco Marathon is one of the most challenging urban marathons in the United States, known for its hilly terrain and iconic landmarks. Starting near the Embarcadero, runners pass along the waterfront before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, offering expansive views of the bay. The course features continuous rolling hills, with several sustained climbs in the first half and more technical elevation changes in the second half through Golden Gate Park and coastal neighborhoods. The terrain demands careful pacing, as there are few truly flat sections. The race finishes back along the waterfront, combining scenic highlights with a physically demanding profile.
