Race Description
The Reggio Emilia Marathon takes runners through the heart of Emilia-Romagna, combining historic Italian streets with stretches of countryside surrounding the city. The race starts in Reggio Emilia at approximately 55 m elevation and finishes at roughly the same altitude, creating a largely balanced course profile. The first part of the marathon remains mostly flat as runners leave the city centre and move through suburban areas and nearby villages. Gradual climbs begin around the middle section of the course, with the route steadily rising to its highest point of about 140 m around km 21. From there, the course trends gently downhill through the second half, returning toward the city and finishing in the historic centre. The terrain is best described as rolling, with one long mid-race climb followed by a gradual descent toward the finish.
