Race Description
The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon is one of the most emotionally charged road races in the United Kingdom, held in honour of former Leeds Rhinos rugby league star Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December 2019 and passed away on 2 June 2024. Rob and his family campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness and funds to support families living with MND, and the race continues his legacy in the city that launched his career and which he called home. The marathon starts on St Michael's Lane and finishes inside AMT Headingley Stadium, taking runners on a circular route through the city's most scenic outer suburbs and surrounding countryside, passing through Headingley, Woodhouse Moor, Cardigan Road, Adel, Bramhope and out to Otley before the long return leg. The course is challenging, with sustained climbs through the hilly northwest Leeds terrain, but is welcoming to all abilities. The race weekend also includes the Leeds Half Marathon on the same day, the MND Mile on the Saturday for all ages and abilities including wheelchair users, and from 2026 the Marathon Relay in partnership with Clarion Solicitors, where teams of seven each run a leg of the full distance. The event supports the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Appeal and the MND Association, with entrants encouraged to raise funds for a charity of their choice or one of the official partner charities. Organised by Run For All, all profits go to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
