Race Description
The Lanzarote International Marathon takes place along the eastern coastline of Lanzarote in Spain’s Canary Islands, offering runners scenic ocean views throughout much of the course. The race starts in Costa Teguise at approximately 8 m elevation and finishes in Puerto del Carmen at around 6 m, creating a slightly net downhill profile. The route follows a coastal avenue through several municipalities including Costa Teguise, Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Playa Honda, and Puerto del Carmen before turning back toward the finish. The terrain is mostly flat but features frequent short rolling rises, with the highest points reaching roughly 28–30 m around km 8 and again near km 34. Much of the middle section between roughly 10 km and 30 km remains very flat near sea level, while the final kilometres include a few sharper but short climbs before descending again toward the finish. The race takes place in December and benefits from Lanzarote’s mild climate, with average temperatures around 21°C (70°F) and typically sunny conditions along the coast.
