Race Description

The Kobe Marathon takes runners along the scenic waterfront of Kobe, one of Japan’s most picturesque port cities, offering views of the harbor, mountains, and urban skyline throughout the race. The course starts in central Kobe at approximately 5 m elevation and finishes near the Kobe Port area at around 3 m, creating an almost completely flat profile. The route follows the coastline for much of the race, passing through several districts of the city while providing continuous ocean views and wide roads ideal for steady pacing. According to the official course profile, the marathon has a total elevation difference of only about 10 m, with gentle undulations appearing mainly around the middle portion of the race near km 28–32 before flattening again toward the finish. With minimal elevation changes and long straight sections, the course is considered very fast and well suited for personal best attempts. The race typically takes place in November when conditions are cool and comfortable for distance running, with average temperatures around 10–18°C (50–64°F).
