Race Description
The Inca Trail Marathon takes place in Peru near the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The race runs through the Salkantay Valley and follows sections of the famous Inca Trail toward Machu Picchu village. Runners experience a dramatic mountain landscape that includes rainforest, highland forest and ancient archaeological sites. The course climbs toward the Llactapata ruins before descending through the valley toward the finish near Machu Picchu. With a maximum altitude of around 3,150 m, altitude and terrain add a significant challenge. The route is mainly on dirt roads and trails, with about 20% single track sections. Participants run through changing environments from humid rainforest to drier high-altitude terrain. Known for its cultural significance and spectacular scenery, the race offers a rare opportunity to run through one of the most iconic regions in the Andes.
