Race Description
The Canberra Times Marathon Festival is Australia's longest-running city marathon, established in 1976 and set in the heart of the nation's capital. The course takes runners through the capital's most iconic and scenic locations, from the Parliamentary Triangle to lakeside paths, parklands and national landmarks. The course loops around Parliament House, past Telopea Park, and heads down Kings Avenue onto Parkes Way for a stretch past the Australian War Memorial. From there it continues toward Barton and onto State Circle before jumping onto an out-and-back section along Adelaide Avenue into the green surrounds of Weston Park, followed by a lakeside run on Alexandrina Drive, before a strong finish on King Edward Terrace. The marathon and half marathon run on Sunday morning on closed roads, enjoying a flat and open course designed for personal bests, with views of Lake Burley Griffin and the city's landmark architecture throughout. April in Canberra brings crisp autumn conditions, with morning temperatures between 5–10°C at the early 6:15am start, warming to 15–20°C by mid-morning, with typically clear skies and low humidity. The race is an Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Rankings qualifier for runners aged 40 and over. The full festival weekend also includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids Dash
