Race Description
The Bangkok Marathon is Thailand’s largest and most traditional marathon event, first held in 1987 and now staged annually on the third Sunday of November. The race starts and finishes on Sanam Chai Road in front of the Grand Palace in Bangkok at approximately 5 m elevation, creating a slightly net downhill course overall. Runners pass through some of the city’s most historic and iconic areas, including temples, lively markets, and modern districts, offering a unique view of Bangkok’s contrasts between tradition and urban life. The marathon begins at midnight, allowing participants to run through the cooler night hours as the city gradually transitions into sunrise. The course is largely flat, typical of Bangkok’s low elevation terrain, with only gentle rolling sections throughout the route. The event takes place in warm tropical conditions, with average temperatures typically ranging from about 24–32°C (75–90°F) and high humidity.
