Race Description
The 3Länderlauf (Three Countries Run) is a unique urban road marathon that crosses the borders of three countries, starting and finishing on Basel's historic Marktplatz, passing through Saint-Louis and Huningue in France and Weil am Rhein in Germany before returning to Switzerland. The marathon consists of two loops of the 21.1 km half marathon course, crossing all three national borders and passing over the Rhine multiple times. The route runs predominantly on asphalt, leading from the historic town hall over the oldest existing Rhine bridge, continuing along the eastern Rhine bank before passing through parks, the Rhine promenade, and back to the Marktplatz finish. The main climbs are the Rhine bridge crossings; otherwise the course is flat and fast. It is one of the only marathons in the world to cross three international borders in a single race.
